The Song of Arion
A lonely song heard by the sea
In greek mythology, Arion was a talented poet & musician who after winning a music competition in Sicily, began his travels home to Corinth by ship. The sailors aboard stole his wealth and gave him a choice between killing himself so he could have a proper burial upon their return, or throwing himself overboard. Arion asked for one final song and as he played, a dolphin, drawn by the music, swam up to the ship. When Arion threw himself into the sea the dolphin rescued him and carried him safely home.
This photo captures the intrigue of a playful bottle nose dolphin as it looks up at a boat full of people. This piece is a reminder of the playful curiosity that we share with the natural world.
